Omaha’s Bar-Sponsored Referral Service for Over 50 Years

Welcome to the Omaha Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service. If you think you may need a lawyer, the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service in Nebraska is here to help.

Established in 1962, the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service is a non-profit public service of the Omaha Bar Association. The Service refers people to private practicing attorneys in Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, & Washington counties. All Service attorneys are in good standing to practice law in Nebraska.

There is no fee charged by the Omaha Lawyer Referral Service to make the referral to an attorney; a consultation fee of $40 is paid directly to the attorney.

A fee of forty dollars is charged for the first thirty-minute consultation with an attorney. No fees are charged for an initial consultation with a Worker’s Compensation, Personal Injury, Bankruptcy, or Social Security lawyer. Once you have had your initial consultation, if you decide to retain the lawyer you will be expected to pay the attorney’s regular rates and fees for legal services. All legal service fees are paid directly to the attorneys, and not to the Lawyer Referral Service. There is no fee charged by the LRS for a referral.

The Lawyer Referral Service is designed to serve anyone who can afford the services of a lawyer. Persons who cannot afford a lawyer will be given the numbers to resources that provide legal services by income.

The Omaha Lawyer Referral Service requires some basic information in order to refer you to an attorney in the Omaha area who practices in the area of law in which you have questions and/or a possible case. Any information you share with the Lawyer Referral Service is confidential and is sent directly to the attorney.

Maybe you don’t need an attorney. The Lawyer Referral Service can also refer you to other legal service organizations, government agencies, or community resources that might be helpful. For those interested in representing themselves in a legal matter pro-se, it should be noted that the Nebraska Judicial Branch recommends consulting with an attorney to ensure your legal rights are protected sufficiently.

The Omaha Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service is the only bar-sponsored referral service in Omaha.

The Lawyer Referral Service does not have lawyers on staff to answer legal questions or provide legal advice.
